While We Are Here

Everyday life/Society, Brazil 2019

Clarissa Campolina (Brazil) was a fellow of the DAAD's Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme in 2015. With "While We Are Here" she succeeded in making a very personal, avant-garde film about the relationship between two people in a US metropolis. Lamis and Wilson are migrants in New York. She is Lebanese who has just arrived in the city and he is Brazilian who has been living there illegally for ten years. The hybrid narrative is constructed with a poetic approach: as a travel diary that becomes a chronicle and leads into the essence of human micropolitics in times of globalisation - into an uncertain realm of longing, hopes and fears.
