The Grand Mosque of Djenné is the world's largest clay building

Djenné, connected by trade since oldest time with Timbuktu, became one of the most important market places on the old Sub-Saharan trade routes. The Bani River is delivering the most important building material: mud. The bricks of the houses are made of mud, mud is the base of the plaster for the houses. The team´s several journeys during rainy and dry season show the big difference in the looks of this middle-aged town at the edge of the Sahara.
